Kyungpook National University (경북대학교, abbreviated as KNU or Kyungdae, 경대) is one of ten Flagship Korean National Universities representing Gyeongbuk Province in South Korea. With its main campu situated in Daegu, the former capital city of the Gyeongbuk Province, South Korea, KNU serves as a hub for academic excellence and innovation in the region.
As a comprehensive research university, KNU holds a reputation as one of the top national universities in Korea. With its ambitious goal and dedicated efforts toward becoming a global university, KNU has earned recognition as an 'Excellent Accredited University' in the 2023 International Education Quality Assurance System (IEQAS) evaluation, conducted by the Korean Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Justice. Out of the 134 universities accredited by IEQAS, only 18 were designated as 'Excellent Accredited Universities', and KNU is proud to be among them.
Kyungpook National University traces its origins back to September 1946 when it was established through the elevation of the Colleges of Education, Medicine, and Agriculture in Daegu to the status of a National College. Subsequently, in October 1951, the institution expanded further with the amalgamation of various colleges including Education, Medicine, Agriculture, Liberal Arts and Sciences, Law, and Political Sciences, officially becoming Kyungpook National University. Over time, additional departments such as Engineering and Dentistry were sequentially introduced, shaping the university into its current form. Throughout its 77-year history, the university has garnered significant support and recognition from the local community, serving as a vital regional educational institution. It has actively engaged with not only the region and the nation but also the global community, embodying the values of "truth, pride, and service."

Since its opening in 1953, the KNU Library has been supporting the research and academic activities of users with over 5,000 study seats and over 3.5 million volumes of books in a space comprising 41,500m². The library provides an academic information system(KUDOS) and an integrated search system to assist search and use of academic materials, as well as on-the-go access to library resources through the KNU library mobile app.
Established in 1959, the KNU Museum boasts a collection of more than 6,983 historic relics, including 7 national treasures designated by the Cultural Heritage Administration in Korea, along with 40,000 excavated artifacts. Following the cherry blossom path from the main gate of Kyungpook National University leads to a pond located approximately 300 meters inside. It is situated close to the main building. Ilcheongdam was established when the agricultural college (now the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences) practice grounds were relocated during the tenure of President Gye Chul-Soon in 1961. It is said to have been created through a donation from Chairman Ha Young-soo, the founder of the Ilcheong Academy (the school corporation of Kyungil University), thus earning its name "Ilcheong(一淸)."
Baekyang-ro stretches from the Ilcheongdam fountain to Baekhogwan. On clear days, KNU students often delight in leisurely strolls along Baekyang-ro, occasionally accompanied by their loved ones to soak in its romantic ambiance. During spring and autumn, the campus hosts various events, including club recruitments and festivals. Walking leisurely beneath the verdant trees, one can experience a serenity reminiscent of a woodland retreat rather than the bustling streets of downtown Daegu. Additionally, it is recognized as a "car-free street," providing pedestrians with comfortable pathways for walking.
Established in 1984, the KNU dormitories at Daegu campus consist of six existing buildings and three BTL dormitories, providing a total of 2,399 rooms. These accommodations accommodate 4,642 individuals, including undergraduates, graduates, and visitors. The Sangju campus dormitories offer an additional 539 rooms, accommodating 1,300 people. Through communal living and building connections with peers, seniors, juniors, and international students., residents can foster a lifestyle characterized by mutual respect, tolerance, and cooperation.
