Kholmsky District ( Russian: Хо́лмский райо́н) is an administrative district ( raion) of Sakhalin Oblast, Russia; one of the seventeen in the oblast. [1] Municipally, it is incorporated as Kholmsky Urban Okrug. [3] It is located in the southwest of the oblast. The area of the district is 2,279 square kilometers (880 sq mi).[ citation needed] Its administrative center is the town of Kholmsk. [1] Population (excluding the administrative center): 10,988 ( 2010 Russian census); [2] 14,672 ( 2002 Census); [5] 20,498 ( 1989 Soviet census). [6]
