Katihar Municipal Corporation or Katihar Nagar Nigam, is the civic body that governs Katihar, a city of Bihar in India.Municipal Corporation mechanism in India was introduced during British Rule with formation of municipal corporation in Madras ( Chennai) in 1688, later followed by municipal corporations in Bombay ( Mumbai) and Calcutta ( Kolkata) by 1762. [1] Katihar Municipal Corporation consists of democratically elected members, is headed by a Mayor, and administers the city's infrastructure, public services, and supplies.
Katihar Municipality was established in 1905 and upgraded into Municipal Corporation in 2009. Corporation covers an area of 50.46 sq. km and is divided into 46 wards.
