John Garcia (born 1 November 1928 in Houston, Texas) [1] was a former member of the Ohio House of Representatives. He died in 2003. [2] He was the first Hispanic voted into the Ohio General Assembly.

Education

Garcia graduated from a high school in Gibsonburg, Ohio. He was the first Hispanic to graduate. [1]

Career

Garcia was an hourly supervisor for Libbey-Owens Ford, retiring in the 1980s. He started out as a Democrat and eventually became a Republican. Garcia was the first Hispanic voted into the Ohio House. [1]

Personal life

Garcia was married to Dolores and together they had 5 children. They lived in Toledo, Ohio. Garcia died on March 26, 2003 after a battle with ALS. [1] Garcia was a Methodist. [1]
