John Cunningham is an Irish former Gaelic footballer who played for Na Cealla Beaga and the Donegal county team.
He won the 1987 All-Ireland Under-21 Football Championship with Donegal. [2]
He returned from London ahead of the 1990 Ulster Senior Football Championship. [3] He played in the final against Armagh, which Donegal won. [3]
He was a panellist on the day of the 1992 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship Final but did not play. He had lost his place in the team following his team's Ulster final win. [4]
Cunningham has also managed his club over many years. [5] [6] [7] [8] And he has been chairman. [9]
He is married to Fionnula. [10]
Now, 'Razda' is manager of Killybegs, who were confirmed as Division 3 champions at the weekend.
For the visiting Fishermen, it's about attempting to pick up the pieces and fast. John Cunningham's team had been looking forward to a return to Division 1 in 2020. But the Covid pandemic put the breaks[sic] on that.
John Cunningham, the Killybegs manager, arrived in Glenties with bodies light; the former Donegal player reckoning his injury count had entered double figures.
'I was thinking of packing it in, thinking of ringing John 'Razda' (Cunningham), our chairman, and saying: 'Listen, you can take this job and shove it', he says.
Once again Donegal fans travelled in big numbers to Croke Park, among those having refreshments in the Croke Park hotel before the game were former Donegal players Finian Ward from Glen, Enda Bonner from Dungloe and Killybegs John Cunningham and his wife Fionnula, and well known Crolly business man Stephen O Donnell, a lifelong Donegal supporter.
