John Cooper is a Scottish Conservative journalist and politician who has served as a Member of Parliament for Dumfries and Galloway since 2024.
A member of the Scottish Conservatives, he was selected as the party's candidate for Dumfries and Galloway for the 2024 United Kingdom general election [1] to replace incumbent Alister Jack pending a peerage to the House of Lords. [2] [3] He had previously worked for Jack as a special advisor on media relations. [4]
Cooper started his career working on the Stranraer and Wigtownshire Free Press weekly newspaper in 1984. He subsequently returned as editor in 2019. [5] He has also worked at the Irish Daily Mail and Scottish Daily Mail. [6]
