Hoya Mala (also spelled Hoyamala) [3] is a barrio in the municipality of San Sebastián, Puerto Rico. Its population in 2010 was 3,594. [4] [5] [6]
Hoya Mala was in Spain's gazetteers [7] until Puerto Rico was ceded by Spain in the aftermath of the Spanish–American War under the terms of the Treaty of Paris of 1898 and became an unincorporated territory of the United States. In 1899, the United States Department of War conducted a census of Puerto Rico finding that the population of Hoya Mala barrio was 1,215. [8]

In late May 2019, barrio Hoyamala and multiple areas in various municipalities suffered flooding, felled trees, landslides and closed highways when Río Culebrinas flooded. [19]
