'''Harini''' is one of the most versatile heroines in the history of Kannada Cinema. She was active during 1950s and 1960s and well known for her natural acting. She led comfortable innings and remained non-controversial throughout her career. ==Early life==

Harini was born in 1937 to Srinivasa Upadhya and Bharathi in Udupi as their fourth child. Her brother Vadiraj was also famous actor and producer. She could not continue studies because of lots of traveling. She was cast in Balakrishna roles in Tamil Films Murugan and Kannika for which she received one rupee for delivering the dialogues very nicely.{{cn|date=January 2014}}

==Career==

Harini made her debut as leading lady in ''Jaganmohini'' in the role of Mohini at the age of 15. She wore a swim suit and hence was the first heroine to wear a swim suit on the Kannada film screen. At the age she was not aware of the definition of the heroine, changed the definition of a typical heroine in Kannada cinema. The film became a first silver jubilee hit and made Harini an overnight star. From thereon Harini never looked back, playing a variety of roles in films like Dallali, Vichitra Prapancha, Nandi, Nanda Deepa, Kanya Dana, Gandharva Kanya, Pathivratha etc.{{cn|date=January 2014}}

Harini acted with all stars of her time like Dr.Rajkumar, Kalyan Kumar, Udaykimar, etc. Harini acted with Dr.Rajkumar in more than 10 films. The {{citation needed span|text=best films|explain=according to whom?|date=January 2014}} of the pair are Nandi, Nanda Deepa, Sathi Sukanya, Asha Sundari, etc.

Harini received precedent award for Best Actress for her films Nanda Deepa and Mangala Muhurtha.
