Gorodishchensky District ( Russian: Городи́щенский райо́н) is an administrative [1] and municipal [6] district ( raion), one of the twenty-seven in Penza Oblast, Russia. It is located in the east of the oblast. The area of the district is 2,053 square kilometers (793 sq mi).[ citation needed] Its administrative center is the town of Gorodishche. [1] Population: 52,480 ( 2010 Census); [3] 53,125 ( 2002 Census); [8] 58,266 ( 1989 Soviet census). [9] The population of Gorodishche accounts for 15.4% of the district's total population. [3]
