Garret S. Cannon (March 1, 1818 – April 21, 1889) was a lawyer who served as United States Attorney for the District of New Jersey under two presidents. [1]

Biography

Born in Somerset, New Jersey, Garret was born to a professor and a house wife. [2] At 18 he graduated Rutgers in 1833, [3] and soon began to practice law in Mount Holly. He would go on to be a part of the New Jersey State Assembly, and later serve as the United States Attorney for the district of New Jersey [4] from 1853 to 1861. [5] [6] He would go out to live out the rest of his life in Bordentown, New Jersey [7] until his death in 1889. [2]
