Franklin Obeng-Odoom is a Ghanaian-Australian political economist, specialising in urban and regional economics, political economy of development, stratification economics, and the political economy of natural resources.

Obeng-Odoom is a member of the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences and Academy of Social Sciences. [1]

Early life and education

Obeng-Odoom was born in Ghana. He completed his bachelor's degree in land economy in Ghana before studying urban economic development in England and political economy in Australia. [2]

Career

From 2008-2009, Obeng-Odoom was a researcher at Global Poverty Projects, Australia. [3] He then taught at the University of Sydney from 2010 to 2011 [3] before becoming a Chancellor's Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Technology Sydney from 2012 to 2015. [3]

From 2018 until July 8, 2023 Obeng-Odoom was an associate professor of Social Sustainability of Urban Transformation in the Global Department Studies, [4] at the Helsinki Institute of Sustainability Science in Finland. In 2021, he became a Docent in Sociology (Urban and Economic Sociology) [4] at the University of Turku. [5]

As of 2024, Obeng-Odoom is a Professor of Global Development Studies at the University of Helsinki, Finland. [5] He previously taught at several universities in Australia. [1]

Obeng-Odoom is an Associate Editor of the Forum for Social Economics, Editor Emeritus of African Review of Economics and Finance and Series Editor of Edinburgh Studies in Urban Political Economy.[ citation needed]
