POTD

I have tried to nominate this for POTD. I have been informed that it is not near time to post this on the main page yet. I replied that Opening Day would be a good choice.-- TonyTheTiger ( t/ c/ bio/ WP:CHICAGO/ WP:LOTD) 19:06, 13 December 2007 (UTC) reply

Chris Young (pitcher), a rising young pitcher, earned his first All-Star Game appearance during the 2007 Major League Baseball season. Young was elected to the game via the All-Star Final Vote, an internet and text message ballot for the final roster spot for each All-star team. During the year, one of his most notable turns as a starting pitcher was his June 16 2007 visit to Wrigley Field to oppose the Chicago Cubs. On that day, he was involved in an incident with Derek Lee that led to a bench-clearing brawl. This picture show Young warming up in the bullpen moments before the game on that day, which was scheduled to start at 12:05 PM central time. The scoreboard shows the time as 11:55 AM. The picture here shows Young in action warming up with a grip that one uses to throw a circle changeup. The baseball is gripped deep in the palm of the hand with the index finger and thumb forming a circle on the side of the ball. Among the notable elements of Wrigley field depicted in the picture are the bullpen which is located in playable foul territory and the old-fashioned scoreboard which was built at a time when scoreboards only needed to accommodate games for a 24 team league. Now, there are thirty Major League Baseball teams.

Well...

What exactly is so special about this picture? A guy throwing a ball during a warmup should hardly be noteworthy to the extent of a Wikipedia's Finest nomination. Southsailor ( talk) 11:51, 9 September 2009 (UTC) reply
