Summary

Description
English: York Road station, Belfast
York Road station was the terminus of the Belfast & Northern Counties Railway serving Cos. Antrim and Londonderry. It was badly damaged by the Luftwaffe during WWII and during the bombing campaign in the 70’s. Demolition for the M2-M1 link road meant that it was totally isolated from the city centre. The diversion of Londonderry trains via Antrim and Lisburn in 1978 left it with just the Larne-line trains. By then it had been rebuilt as shadow of itself. A bus (under the name "Rail-Link") was provided to link the station to Central. Inevitably a Bristol with fibreglass seats and (very loud) piped music it was not a pleasant experience. Now replaced by Yorkgate on the cross-harbour line). See also J3475 : York Road station, Belfast (2).
