Summary

Description
English: Wayang orang is one of the traditional Javanese performing arts, especially Central Java. The story played is based on the story of the Mahabharata and Ramayana which contains moral messages. In addition to traditional theatrical performances, wayang orang is also filled with ballet.

The puppets are very old. The Wimalasmara inscription (930 AD) and the Balitung inscription (907 AD) have called this performance the Old Javanese term, wayang wwang. Evidence that this art already existed in the days of Ancient Mataram. After that preserved the new kingdoms that emerged in East Java, including Majapahit.

Long forgotten, wayang wwang revived the Surakarta and Yogyakarta courts, two kingdoms that emerged from the division of Mataram in the Giyanti Treaty in 1755.

Wayang orang berusia sangat tua.
