English: Space Shuttle Enterprise in the collection of the National Air and Space Museum, Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center, Washington DC The Enterprise (NASA Orbiter Vehicle Designation: OV-101) was the first Space Shuttle built for NASA. It was constructed without engines or a functional heat shield, and was therefore not capable of space operations; its purpose was to perform test flights in the atmosphere.

De constructie van deze eerste spaceshuttle werd voltooid op 17 september 1976.

Deze spaceshuttle is nooit de ruimte in gegaan, omdat hij daarvoor niet uitgerust was. Hij werd door de NASA gebruikt als testobject onder andere voor het testen van de landing.

De Enterprise werd gebruikt tot 1985.

Die Enterprise wurde als Prototyp für die eigentlichen Raumfähren gebaut. Mit ihr wurde das Flugverhalten der Raumfähren getestet. Die Enterprise kann nicht in den Weltraum fliegen, da sie über keinen Hitzeschild verfügt.

Elle n'a finalement jamais été mise en orbite, étant d'abord utilisée pour faire des tests expérimentaux.
