Deutsche Arbeitsfront; DAF), the labour organisation of the
National Socialist German Workers' Party (
NSDAP) which replaced the various independent trade unions in Germany after Adolf Hitler's rise to power in 1933. The DAF consisted of the National Socialist Factory Organization (
Nationalsozialistische Betriebszellenorganisation, NSBO) responsible for the political work and the guidance of the DAF, the
National Socialist Trade and Industry Organization (
Nationalsozialistische Handels- und Gewerbeorganisation, NSHAGO) representing salaried employees, the Food estate (
Reichsnährstand, RNST) representing agriculture, the
Reich Chamber of Culture (
Reichskulturkammer, RKK), the
National Socialist Association of Legal Professionals (
Nationalsozialistischer Rechtswahrerbund, NSRB), the thirteen
Trustee of Labour (
Treuhänder der Arbeit) , the leaders of the twelve groups of the
Reichsstand der Deutschen Industrie (RStDI) and the
Gauleiters of the Nazi Party. The purpose of the DAF was to ensure trouble-free running of German industry and commerce.
