MP2_Observation_tower,_La_Corbiere_-_geograph.ci_-_292.jpg(640 × 412 pixels, file size: 228 KB, MIME type: image/jpeg)

Description

MP2 Observation tower, La Corbiere. Constructed during World War II by the German occupying forces.
This is the second of three Artillery Direction Finding Towers (MP1 is located at Noirmont and MP3 at Les Landes).
They were built with 2.5 to 3.5 metre thick ferro-concrete to house artillery observers who were supposed to use triangulation methods to determine where their german shells were landing in the sea.
After this was found to be a flawed method they became simple observation towers.

This tower is now available as holiday accommodation sleeping 6 for from 910 per week.
