Description
English: Linville Falls is a waterfall 39; water located in the Blue Ridge Mountains, North Carolina United States. Linville Falls marks the beginning of the Linville Gorge, which is formed by the Linville River, which continues on after the fall before finally ending near Lake James. According to staff at Linville Falls, the falls were used by local Indians for 39; execute prisoners. No person 39; is known to have survived a fall on the final jump. Fallswere donated to the National Park Service in 1952 by John D. Rockefeller, Jr. He has contributed about $ 100,000 for 39, purchase of land, including 1,100 acres surrounding the falls 4.5 km2 and a part of Linville Gorge, Giulia Luginbuhl Des Moines, IA, whose father, FW Hossfeld of Morganton, North Carolina, had purchased the property about 1900.
