Description
English: Eddie Aikau (Kahului, HI, 1946–1978) - Renowned big wave surfer and lifeguard, crewed aboard Hokule'a on her ill-fated 1978 trip to Tahiti. Following Holule'a's capsizing 12 miles south of Molokai, Eddie volunteered to swim to Lana'i to get help. He was never seen again. PVS recognizes his sacrifice aboard Hokule'a with this plaque.
