Summary

Description
English: Diagram appearing on p202 of De Mundo, showing Gilbert's conception of the solar system. He rejected the idea of the "sphere of the stars" as shown clearly in De Magneto, published in 1600. However he didn't publish this manuscript before his death in 1603, nor did make any clear statement that he believed the earth moved around the sun, although he asserted that the earth revolved daily on its axis. The book was prepared for publication by his brother and didn't take place till 1651
