Summary

Description
English: On September 7, 1999, an earthquake struck the city of Athens. IDF sent a delegation to Athens, to participate in joint action with Swiss and French search and rescue teams. Desperately needed heavy engineering tools were brought by the Israeli delegation, and these helped the rescue teams to work quickly and efficiently. The President of Greece thanked Israel for “leaving your problems back at home to come help us with ours.”
עברית: ב- 7 בספטמבר 1999 אירעה רעידת אדמה בעיר אתונה. שלישיית קרנפים של טייסת "אבירי הציפור הצהובה" (בודד מהטייסת וזוג מטייסת "הפילים") השתתפה בהטסת יחידת חילוץ וציוד לסיוע לנפגעי הרעש. המשלחת הייתה חלק מפעולה משותפת עם צוותי החיפוש וההצלה של שוויץ וצרפת. המשלחת הישראלית הביאה עמה כלי הנדסה כבדים שהיו דרושות באופן נואש וסייעו לצוותי ההצלה לעבוד במהירות וביעילות. נשיא יוון הודה לישראל על "השארתם את הבעיות שלכם בבית ובאתם לעזור לעם שלנו."
