In celebration of the 29th anniversary of the launch of NASA's Hubble Space Telescope, astronomers captured this festive, colorful look at the tentacled Southern Crab Nebula. (Source: NASA Hubblesite)
Southern Crab Nebula (Hen 2-104) located in the constellation of Centaurus (southern hemisphere) appears to have 2 nested hourglass objects that were sculpted by a whirling pair of stars in a binary system. (Source: NASA Hubblesite, edited)
Duo consists of an aging red giant star, shedding its outer layers which the white dwarf attracts with its gravity; results are both stars are embedded in a flat disk of gas & dust bubbles that stretch between them. (Source: NASA Hubblesite, edited)
