At 7.30pm on 1 June, 1960, New Zealand’s first official public television broadcast was transmitted from Central Auckland. Although it could initially only be watched in Auckland, the other main centres eventually followed. By August 1962 TV shows were also streaming from stations in Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin.
