Summary

Picture of Théodore Simon around 1905 when he developed the IQ test together with Alfred Binet. Excerpt from a larger photograph in the possession of the Binet-Simon Society, which I can make available (e-mail correspondence). Currently, there are only three photos of Simon available, all at a much older age (and the one on the Wikipedia page is very blurry). Théodore Simon deceased over 50 years ago and there are no indications against fair use of the picture.

I received this photo from the Binet-Simon Society and may take an excerpt from it to better represent Simon in scientific publications. Though this image is subject to copyright, its use is covered by the U.S. fair use laws because: - It is a historically significant photo of a famous individual. Binet's photo is widely used to illustrate the origins of the intelligence test. Recent research has indicated that Simon has been as important in the development of the test. Hence, his picture is as important as that of Binet. - It is of lower resolution than the original (copies made from it will be of inferior quality). - The photo is only being used for informational purposes to illustrate the Wikipedia text about Théodore Simon. Previously, there was a blurred image of Simon at the age of 50, 20 years after the development of the intelligence scale. This picture is of the exact time. It is part of a larger picture. - Its inclusion in the article adds significantly to the article because the photo and its historical significance make Simon's contribution to the intelligence scale on par with those of Binet. At present, Simon's contribution is overshadowed by that of Binet, because Binet's picture is the only illustration that can be used for teaching purposes.
