Distribution of some murine rodents on New Guinea, based on Image:BlankMap-World-alt.PNG. Red = Hydromys chrysogaster, green = Xeromys myoides (H. chrysogaster also occurs in these areas) and blue indicates various insular species of Hydromys (undescribed species on Obi, in the west, H. neobritannicus on New Britain in the north-east and an unidentified species on Fergusson in the south-east.
