I took this photo on the Nature Trail in Elena Gallegos park in Albuquerque, NM. It's a cicada, in the genus Cacama. They were all over the place on this day (June 30 2007). Even though I don't know anything about cicadas, I'm posting it because I think it's a nice shot of the eye, legs, and transparent wings w/ veins. I also don't know anything about plants, but I think maybe that is a chamisa branch that the cicada is holding onto. For scale, I would say the body is about one inch long.
