The smelter operated from 1917 until 1974 when it was closed and eventually torn down. At the time of its closure, it was the city's largest employer, employing 800 people in 1972, and over 1,000 at its peak. | ||

I spoke with the Oklahoma Historical Society. They said that the photo was available to use any where as long as it was not for commercial use. They specifically mentioned Wikipedia, Facebook, etc as being appropriate uses of the image. There terms of use states, "The contents of The Gateway to Oklahoma History (digital content including images, text, and sound and video recordings) are made publicly available by the collection-holding partners for use in research, teaching, and private study." | ||
