Plattenepithel, das in vier Schichten unterteilt ist, beginnend mit der äußersten Schicht: stratum corneum (SC), stratum granulosum (SG), stratum spinosum (SS) und stratum basale (SB). Die äußere Schicht des Haarfolikels grenzt an die Basalzellschicht der Epidermis.
Stammzellnischen gibt es in der Basalzellschicht der Epidermis, der Basis der Talgdrüse, dem Wulstbereich des Haarfollikels, der Haarpapille und der Dermis.
