Erwin Kalser (22 February 1883 – 26 March 1958) was a German-Jewish [2] stage and film actor, best remembered as the Geneva Convention inspector in Stalag 17. He did most of his work in American made films.

Biography

Erwin Kalser was born Erwin Kalischer in Berlin. He launched his career in Munich shortly after the beginning of the century. In 1933, he moved to Switzerland to work in the theatre. He first went to the United States in 1937 and returned in 1940 where he became a citizen. He appeared on Broadway in Androcles and the Lion. [1]

He married film writer, Irmgard von Cube, and is the father of Oscar-winning producer Konstantin Kalser. [1]
