The Valencian metropolitan area is an urban area in the Valencian Community ( Spain) centered on the city of Valencia bordering the Mediterranean sea on the east coast of the Iberian Peninsula. With a population of over 1.7 million people and over 60 municipalities, it is the third most populated urban area in Spain, after Madrid and Barcelona.

According to a lot of official organisations like the Department of Economic and Social Affairs of United Nations, councilofEurope.com and citypopulation.de, the Valencian metropolitan area differs in terms of population going from 1,600,000 to 1,900,000.
