Nikola Sandulović (born in 1963) is the former chairman of the extraparliamentary Republican Party of Serbia. [1] Sandulović was one of the closest collaborators of Zoran Đinđić, the former Prime Minister of Serbia.[ citation needed]
Arrest
In 2024, Sandulović was arrested by the Secret Service of Serbia on the grounds that he had incited hatred after he had honored the victims of the war in Kosovo and had placed flowers at the Jashari family cemetery
His family accuses the Secret Service of Serbia of having tortured him during his arrest. As a result of the torture, he lost consciousness and was treated in the hospital [2]
His arrest has provoked reactions in Kosovo. The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti has accused the Government of Serbia of torturing those citizens who have decided to apologize for the crimes committed against the Albanians during the war.
Kurti expressed his concern for the arrest of the Serbian politician, accusing the president of Serbia of using the methods of the Russian Federation to intimidate opponents. [3]
Alicia Kearns, the head of the Foreign Affairs Commission of Great Britain, also reacted to this event. She expressed her concern regarding the reports that the Serbian politician was arrested and tortured by the secret service.
Despite his health condition, Nikola Sandulović was transferred to the Serbian prison on January 5, 2024. His daughter expressed her concern that her father may die in prison as his health condition is serious.
Private life
Sandulović is an architect by profession, having graduated from a university in France. He has two children, speaks English and French, and lives in Belgrade.[ citation needed]
