Mhairi Fraser (born July 1988) is an anti-corruption lawyer [1] and the Conservative parliamentary candidate for Epsom and Ewell [2] in the next United Kingdom general election.

Early life and education

Mhairi Fraser was born in Hong Kong in July 1988, to Scottish parents.

Fraser attended school in Hong Kong, Singapore and Thailand, before studying English Literature at the University of Edinburgh and graduating with an MA (Hons) in 2011.

In 2007, Fraser's parents moved the family back from Asia to Epsom in Surrey. Her three younger siblings were educated at Glyn School and at Epsom College. Fraser worked at the Marquis of Granby pub in Epsom and at Leatherhead Food Research during university holidays, and also volunteered for Epsom Hospital radio. [3]

Early career

Upon graduating from the University of Edinburgh, Fraser obtained a place as a trainee financial journalist at Incisive Media, specialising in financial crime and regulation, [4] before working as a parliamentary assistant to Damian Hinds in the House of Commons.

Fraser left her role as parliamentary assistant after two years to study for the Graduate Diploma in Law at BPP Law School, and subsequently worked in Parliament for Greg Hands while studying for the Legal Practice Course.

Since 2017, Fraser has worked in London and Stockholm as an anti-corruption lawyer for White & Case, specialising in bribery, corruption, money laundering, fraud and sanctions. She advises both companies and individuals in relation to national and international regulatory, criminal and enforcement matters. [2] On a pro bono basis, she has also strategised the legal and political defence for a Nobel Peace Prize winner being persecuted by a foreign government, and has assisted a "miscarriage of justice" charity in investigating a potentially wrongful murder conviction.

Political career

During her legal studies, Fraser stood as the Conservative candidate in Coatbridge, Chryston, and Belshill in the 2015 general election, placing third above UKIP and the Liberal Democrats.

On 15 January 2024, Fraser was selected as the Conservative Party's prospective parliamentary candidate for the safe seat of Epsom and Ewell. [2]
