Central Avenue in Tampa, Florida is a road in downtown that was the heart of its African American community before being seized by eminent domain and razed for interstate construction in and a park.

It was on the western wdge of the neighborgood known as The Scrub. [1] [2] A historical marker commemorates its history. [3]

In the 1890s seven businesses were located on it. [4]

The Cotton Club was a music venue where performers from the Chitlin Circuit performed. [5]

Historian Fred Hearns has offered tours of the area. Perry Harvey Park is located in the area. [6]

WEDU produced a documentary on Central Avenue and its history. [7]
