Baubot is an Austrian robotics company specialized in creating multi-purpose robotic systems primarily for the construction industry. Since 2021 the company has been an independent subsidiary of the German manufacturer fischerwerke GmbH & Co. KG. [1].
The name Baubot is a German language portmanteau of the words bauen (construction) and robot.
The company was founded in 2017 as a spinoff of the Vienna University of Technology under the name Printstones [2]. The initial aim of the company was to utilize additive manufacturing to automate the creation of bespoke concrete parts - in particular paving stones - with less material and without the need for conventional formwork.
In 2020 the company pivoted away from additive manufacturing systems into general-purpose construction robots [3] which can be modularly expanded and adapted [4].
The German manufacturer fischerwerke took over a majority share of Baubot in 2021 for an undisclosed sum [5].
