On the morning of February 27, 2024, an 8,000-acre wildfire was reported north of Amarillo, Texas. Later that afternoon highways like Texas-136 were closed due to fire conditions, and multiple evacuations were issued for towns like Fritch, Double Diamond, and other ranching communities. By the night time of February 28, the fire exploded to 142,000 acres now the second largest active fire during the Texas Panhandle 2024 Wildfires.
