Taylor Wade Plemons [2] (born 22 October 1992), [3] is an American Youtuber and sports commentator. Plemons created his Youtube channel, The W.A.D.E. Concept, on August 24, 2017. [4] Growing up as a high school and collegiate athlete, Plemons retained a focus on sports throughout his career. He would eventually find success in his Youtube channel by analyzing influencer boxing events, which would propel him into his career as a combat sports commentator. Plemons has since worked alongside other mainstream commentators such as Todd Grisham and Ade Oladipo.
Plemons began uploading videos to Youtube in 2017, beginning with a sports podcast under the name W.A.D.E Concept, with the acronym referring to "We Are Debating Everything". [5] Alongside his podcast, Plemons would implement "breakdown videos" in which he would thoroughly analyze footage of combat sports fighters, [6] as well as hold "watch party" livestreams in which Plemons would provide commentary and reactions towards various combat sporting events. [7]
In 2021, Plemons would find success in his breakdown videos and watch parties of influencer boxing events, with his channel seeing a notably surge from his coverage of Jake Paul vs Ben Askren, [8] Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs Logan Paul, Jake Paul vs Tyron Woodley, [9] and the Youtubers vs Tiktokers: Battle of the Platforms card. [10] As such, Plemons would shift to a primary focus in influencer boxing content.
After beginning his sports commentary career in 2022, Plemons and fellow youtuber FaZe Sensei (Isiah Ocasio-Pantoja) would create THE BREAKDOWN, serving as a podcast series analyzing influencer boxing, as well as interviewing combat sports athletes. [11]
On March 20, 2023, Plemons would upload a video in which he expressed that a rematch between Tommy Fury and Jake Paul would have the potentially to sell more pay-per-view purchases than a highly anticipated KSI vs Jake Paul fight. [12] Following the video's upload, KSI would take to X (formerly Twitter) to accuse Plemons of being "2 faced" and a " cunt". [13] As a result, Misfits Boxing co-founder Mams Taylor [14] would publicly fire Plemons from the broadcasting team on a live Twitter Space. [15]
The incident would polarize the two youtubers' communities, with both parties receiving backlash online from one another. [16] Jake Paul, a public rival of KSI, would come to defend Plemons and accuse KSI of being "immature" and calling for him to fire Mams Taylor. [17] Although both KSI and Mams Taylor would promptly issue a public apology, [18] the sincerity of such apologies would come into question after a Side+ clip would surface of KSI still accusing Plemons of being two-faced and a liar. [19]
Plemons would upload a video in response to the situation on March 23, in which he would defend his character from such accusations and claim that he and KSI had simply had a "misunderstanding". [20] KSI would later issue another apology following further backlash, stating that he and Plemons had "squashed the beef", though Plemons has still yet to have worked on another Misfits Boxing event following the controversy. [21] [22]
In January 2024, Plemons stated that he still receives criticism from KSI's community following the incident. [23]
On January 15, 2022, Plemons signed to Showstar Boxing as his first commentary job, [24] being put behind the production and promotion of the company's UK vs USA influencer boxing card. [25] However, Plemons would be forced to pull out from the commentary team on February 25, just 41 days following the announcement. In a video uploaded the same day, Plemons revealed that he had contracted a blood clot in his leg, making a flight from the United States to the United Kingdom, where the event was being held, dangerous for Plemons' health.
Following this setback, Plemons signed to iDubbbz's influencer boxing event, Creator Clash, and was announced as the lead commentator on April 13, 2022. [26] [27] The event's location of Tampa, Florida allowed for Plemons to travel to the venue without endangering his health and partake in his first live event as a commentator. The success of the first event gave way for Creator Clash 2, held on April 15, 2023, in which Plemons also provided lead commentary for. [28]
On July 24, 2022, Plemons announced that he had signed a deal with DAZN and that he would be working on the broadcasting team of MF & DAZN X Series 001: 2 Fights 1 Night, as well as future Misfits Boxing cards, an influencer boxing company created by English youtuber KSI and boxing company Wasserman. [29]
After his tenure in Misfits Boxing, Plemons announced that he had signed with Kingpyn Boxing on March 30, 2023. [30] The bracket-styled [31] influencer tournament events, which were held on April 22 in London [32] and July 15 in Dublin respectively, [33] came with much controversy in terms of production quality and fighter behavior. [34] Following the company's inactivity and failure to provide information regarding their upcoming final event in the tournament, Plemons uploaded a video on August 25, alleging that Kingpyn Boxing had failed to provide payment for numerous fighters and production workers, including himself. [35] Plemons also stated that the company lost millions of dollars in the first event alone, claiming a loss of around $4 million. [36] Numerous other fighters would speak out about their lack of payment following Plemons' video, including fighter Elle Brooke, in which she also alleged that the company had partook in unethical behavior and ultimately mistreated their fighters with a lack of conduct and communication. [37] Kingpyn Boxing filed for bankruptcy in 2023. [38]
In May 2023, Plemons signed to Jake Paul's boxing promotion company, Most Valuable Promotions, as a commentator for their Most Valuable Prospects series. [39] Plemons would subsequently serve behind the broadcasting team for future Jake Paul events, including both Jake Paul vs Nate Diaz [40] and Jake Paul vs Andre August as a commentator, [41] and Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson as a promoter as a part of Most Valuable Promotions' The Boxing Lab series. [42]
On November 27, 2023, Plemons announced that he had signed with Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship as a commentator. [43]
Plemons was born in Loudon, Tennessee on October 22, 1992 to Arnold Plemons and Kimberly Borneby. [44] He attended Loudon High School and was a member of the varsity football team and track & field team. [45]
In college, Plemons played wide reciever for the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles whilst majoring in journalism. [46] He and his family are fans of the Tennessee Volunteers football team. [47]
Prior to his Youtube career, Plemons found work as an actor, model, and marketer. [48] He was cast in the 2019 romantic comedy film, Rebound Sex, as his sole film role. [49]
