Vaibhav Bhandari is an Indian social worker and rare disease warrior. He is from Rajasthan and the founder of the non-governmental organization, Swavlamban Foundation, [1] which works towards the upliftment of people with disabilities and those with rare diseases. The Government of India honored Bhandari in 2022 with the "National Award For Individual Excellence PwD" by honorable President of India. [2] [3]

Biography

Vaibhav Bhandari was born on January 29, 1989, in Pali City, Rajasthan. He graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce from Govt.Bangur College in Pali in 2006. He further pursued a Bachelor of Law (2012), a Postgraduate degree in Law (2015), a Postgraduate degree in Social Work (2015), a Postgraduate degree in Psychology (2019), a Professional Diploma in Clinical Psychology (2020), and a Doctor of Philosophy in Law.

Vaibhav began his social work journey by founding the Swavlamban Foundation in 2019, focusing on the welfare of people with disabilities and rare diseases. [4] His organization provides education, vocational training, and rehabilitation services, aiming to empower individuals to lead self-sufficient lives. The foundation has grown to support various initiatives, including special schools for intellectually disabled children, and organizing camps for people with disabilities and rare diseases. [5]

Awards and recognitions

In 2024, he received the Role Model Living with Rare award from the Organization for Rare Diseases India. In 2023, he was honored with the Helen Keller Award [6] by NCPEDP for creating employment opportunities for persons with disabilities and the Professor Yeshwant Rao Kelkar Youth Award by ABVP for improving the standard of living and boosting the self-confidence of Divyangs. [7] Additionally, in 2019, he was awarded the Role Model Award by the Rajasthan Directorate of Specially Abled Person. [8] [9]
