Thomas Röper (born November 26, 1971 in Bremen) is a German non-fiction author and blogger living in St. Petersburg. He is considered a disseminator of disinformation such as demonstrably false claims, conspiracy theories and Russian government propaganda. He has been running the Anti-Spiegel blog since 2018 and works with the Russian state broadcaster RT DE.
According to a Russian media report from 2003, Röper completed his studies in banking and insurance at the Christian-Albrechts University of Kiel in 1994 and worked in the insurance industry from 1994, mostly in Russia from 1998. [1]. No further evidence of his education and career is known. He has lived in St. Petersburg since 1998 [2] with a few interruptions and speaks fluent German, Russian and English.
He has been running the Anti-Spiegel blog since 2018. On his blog, he often participates in the dissemination of false claims, disinformation, conspiracy theories and Russian government propaganda. Röper also participates with his blog in various program formats on the conspiracy ideology internet portal NuoViso/NuoFlix. According to Belltower.News, the enemy of his "Anti-Spiegel" is the magazine Der Spiegel. The magazine stands for the "established mainstream media" and the " lying press". Thomas Röper accuses Der Spiegel of having developed from an "assault gun of democracy" into an "assault gun of NATO". According to Belltower News, he despises the pro-Western and negative reporting on Russia, while the "Anti-Spiegel" sees itself as a counterpart to this, wanting to "set the record straight" and save the Kremlin's reputation. He has dedicated a book to Russian President Putin for this purpose.
Thomas Röper continually appears on Russian state television [3], including the Russian Ministry of Defense's TV channel Zvezda. He has been producing the weekly program Anti-Spiegel-TV with the Russian-funded foreign broadcaster RT DE since July 2023. He claims to have no relationship with the Russian government.
Thomas Röper had around 113,000 followers on Telegram in February 2024. His YouTube channel "Anti-Spiegel" had more than 133,000 followers in February 2024.
Thomas Röper works together with Alina Lipp, who also spreads pro-Russian propaganda [4]
