Critical reception

The Jim and Frank Mysteries – The Blood River Files

AppSpy gave it 5, concluding "Fans of adventure games and the occasional brain-teaser will be delighted with the content in The Jim and Frank Mysteries and can expect the main story to take around 7 hours depending on their skill level. This is extraordinary value while it remains on sale and is definitely recommended for all gamers after a lighthearted brain-twisting new game". [6]

148Apps gave it 3/5 stars, writing "Jim & Frank Mysteries is a very definite imitation of that popular Nintendo DS franchise. The comparisons are expected, but I can’t provide them. All I can do is judge the game on its own merits". [7]

PocketGamer rated it 3/10, concluding "The Jim & Frank Mysteries: Blood River Files completely fails to improve on the formula laid down by Professor Layton with paper-thin characters, a generally uninteresting plot, and lacklustre puzzles". [8]

Slide to Play gave it 5, writing "In our view, one of the best Nintendo DS series is Professor Layton. In those games, each mystery requires you to solve a large variety of mind-bending puzzles provided by the people you meet. The Jim and Frank Mysteries - The Blood River Files tries to capitalize on this concept, but it falls short with odd artwork, poor dialogue, and controls that are often frustrating". [9]

IGN gave it 5 and wrote, "The Jim and Frank Mysteries is the latest. Presumably the first in a series, The Blood River Files sends this duo of curious kids on an adventure. You help the boys out by solving puzzles as they explore the world outside Tinyville, including math puzzles, object finding, logic teasers, and more". [10]
