TERAVARNA Art Gallery is based out of Los Angeles, California. It is a contemporary art gallery focused on supporting painters, photographers, sculptors, and various other artists creating artworks in 2D and 3D forms from across the globe. While mainly operating as a digital gallery, it also ventures into selling artworks, physical exhibitions, and fairs like artBIAS, LA Art Show, and Superfine from time to time. At present the gallery has over 350 artists in its portfolio. Its mission is to bring contemporary art to the center stage, by supporting artists and making their art more accessible globally.
The gallery was established in 2020 as ART SHOW INTERNATIONAL GALLERY or ArtSIG by Dr. Niladri Sarker. Even during the tough times of the COVID-19 pandemic, the gallery continued helping artists digitally, by organizing online competitions, solo exhibitions, and opportunities to market their work. It still continues to give out artist grants, sponsorships, and cash prizes to deserving artists with the sole intention of supporting and encouraging their art careers.
In 2022, the gallery decided to rename ArtSIG with something shorter and unique, that also resonates with its philosophy. Hence they decided to name it TERAVARNA, which is a combination of two words, TERA (ˈtɛrə) meaning a trillion, and VERNA (vɑːnə,ˈvəːnə) meaning color. Hence, the name TERAVARNA means ‘a trillion colors.’
The gallery organizes its online competitions twice a month, ranging from different themes such as open, landscape, nature, water, color, etc. The purpose of the competition is to encourage artists of every niche to come forward with their work and get the chance to present it on an international platform. The winners are entitled to numerous rewards such as cash prizes, online promotions, and a dedicated space in the annual art book that the gallery has recently launched.
Another form of providing financial aid to its artists is the artist grant that the gallery announces every quarter for the most deserving candidates. It is a non-conditional cash prize of $2,000 that the winning artists can utilize in any way that suits them the best. The grant announcement is decided solely on the work an artist submits for jurying, irrespective of their past creations or experience. It gives every artist, both novice and experienced, a fair chance to compete for the funding. By the end of 2023, the gallery had already given out $14,000 in grants alone.
TERAVARNA launched its Marketplace at the beginning of 2024 as part of its initiative to expand the contemporary art market. It is a global platform that allows artists and art collectors worldwide to come together for the sale and purchase of art pieces from different corners of the world. Before launching its own marketplace, the gallery enabled the sale of artworks through a third-party platform, Artsy. It promoted numerous artists, created shows, and assisted them in selling their work through the platform. The gallery shall continue its partnership with Artsy alongside its Marketplace launch.
TERAVARNA offers invite-only solo exhibitions, which artists can apply for via the gallery's official website. Selected artists submit their artworks based on a chosen theme. The gallery also awards an Artist-of-the-Year prize, along with cash prizes, promotions, honorable mentions, and finalist awards.
After the disruption from the pandemic, the gallery had put a pause on its physical exhibitions for a while. However, it started tapping into the venture again with the LA Art Show in 2023, one of the most prestigious art shows in America. Eventually, the gallery also organized the 1st artBIAS (Budapest International Art Show) in the same year in collaboration with the Golden Duck Gallery in Budapest, Europe. The show helped the gallery establish a firm position in the European art industry and build a strong artist portfolio. It also gave artists from other parts of the world a chance to tap the European market and showcase their work to an international audience. Later on, the gallery also went ahead to take part in Superfine Art Fairs, held in New York City, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. These exhibitions helped artist present their craft, network with the members of the industry, and find better work opportunities.
