Sulhwa is a generic term for a story that has been passed down among groups. In Korea, it is simply classified into Shinhwa, jeonseol, and Mindam.
- Shinhwa is a story that is deified based on historical facts.
- Jeonseol is a story made up of existing customs, natural objects, and the origin of objects.
- Mindam is made-up stories circulating.
