Star for Life Ukraine is a non-profit organization focused on uplifting underprivileged children in Ukraine, particularly in the context of the ongoing war and its impact on education. It is part of the global Star for Life brand, which has been active for over 17 years and has impacted over 500,000 children worldwide.

History

Star for Life Ukraine was established in 2022 amidst the challenges faced by Ukraine. The organization was founded by Swedish entrepreneur and philanthropist Dan Olofsson and Valery Krasovsky, CEO of Sigma Software Group. [1] [2] [3]The Executive Director of the Foundation became Dennis Wolowyk. [4] In 2023, Star for Life Ukraine focused on partnering with local schools, enhancing their computer facilities and offering IT courses as extracurricular activities. Organisation established collaborations in six locations: Verkhovyna and Ivano Frankivsk in the Ivano Frankivsk Region; Drogobych and Brody in the Lviv Region; and Tutchyn in the Rivne Region.

Mission and Vision

The mission of Star for Life Ukraine is to provide children, irrespective of their socio-economic background, with access to quality education, computer literacy programs, and essential digital tools. The organization envisions a future where every child in Ukraine has the opportunity to reach their full potential.

Programs and Activities

Star for Life Ukraine's approach is multifaceted, encompassing educational, mental health, and humanitarian efforts:

  • Educational Programs: In 2023, Star for Life Ukraine opened 6 new computer laboratories and provided IT education to over 10,000 children. These programs aim to bridge educational gaps and equip children with skills for the digital age. A notable project is the "Girls in Tech" initiative, started in collaboration with the Street Child Foundation, to encourage girls to learn IT skills and challenge the stereotype of IT being a male-dominated field.
  • Mental Health Support: The "Mental Boost" project was started to help children develop not only hard skills in programming but also soft skills and wellbeing practices.
  • Humanitarian Efforts: The organization has provided over 200 notebooks to children to support their education and extends its efforts to provide humanitarian aid, including the "Computer for Kid" project and collaborative humanitarian support with other organizations.

Partnerships and Collaborations

In its first year, Star for Life Ukraine partnered with many organizations to create a coalition focused on providing children access to quality tech education and best practices in mental health. Partners include the Ministry of Education of Ukraine, [5] Street Child Foundation, Voices of Children, Nexer Group, [6] Zacco [7] and others. In 2023, Star for Life Ukraine also became an associate member of the Eurochild network. [8]

Fundraising and Awards

In its first year, Star for Life Ukraine successfully fundraised over 70,000 USD. The organization was also recognized internationally, receiving the Highly Commended Best Charity or NGO Programme award at the Corporate Engagement Awards in London in 2023. [9]
