Samu Sphiwe Skosana (born October 21, 1999), better known by his stage name S.S.S, is a South African rapper and songwriter.

Early Life

S.S.S (born Samukelisiwe Sphiwe Skosana) is the second child to his parents. Born October 21, 1999 in Middelburg, Mpumalanga, he was raised in the township called Mhluzi by his grandmother.

His love for dancing is what introduced him to different types of genres in music and helped him see beyond the boundaries of music Genres. Every morning before leaving for school, his grandmother would play Gospel which would become the foundation in his music knowledge.His obsession with different drums stemmed from his love and appreciation of Joyous Celebration drummer [Sabu Satsha]]. S.S.S began his musical performance journey at the age of 5 as he and his Brother Siya would sing as a due every week in church on Sundays. Whether it be with the child ministry choir or it being a duet, they would make it a point that they had a song to perform every church service.

Career

2014-2017: Early work

S.S.S started by writing lyrics for a house track they made with his friends in 2014 called Mnike Produced by his best friend Tlhomogelo Mosotho (Small Deezaya). After writing his first song he fell in love with song writing.

His interest in hip hop would later make him write lyrics in 2015 and start venturing into recording. He dropped his first song titled Blow up on the 1st of December in 2015.

The following year(2016) he co-produced a beat to a song by his brother (Khanda) titled Shosholoza and dived into the process of making music on a regular basis. Being part of a group called Swagg Ninjaz, they recruited Prosper(Skosana Lwazi). After joining S.N, Prosper being the youngest in the collective, featured S.S.S on his first song Burn it. The song reached a lot of people around S.S.S's school and his verse on the song was well received by his peers.


In 2016, S.S.S dropped his second song titled Gijima where on the track he features Khanda & Sniper B. The Song didn't really live up to his expectations as it didn't reach a lot of people. He dropped a freestyle on his birthday titled Got it(own it), which became a secret drop. In 2016 he had his first radio interview on a Midday show(Captive Sound) on his community radio station Greater Middelburg FM 89.7 [1].

In 2017 he made the remix to his song Gijima which featured Silva man, Khanda, & Naughty Nerd( Cormes), which initially had Boity da Mc instead of Khanda. The song premiered on the community radio station(GMFM 89.7) and this gave S.S.S local exposure.

2018 - 2019: Moving to Johannesburg ,SSS(EP) & 4(EP)

In March 2018 S.S.S moved to Johannesburg to study at the Academy Of Sound Engineering [2].Moving to Joburg, while getting to learn Pro Tools, he started making music with new artists in his college. He was featured on Cormes's song titled Dreams & Money which dropped on the 1st of June of 2018. In that year S.S.S had the opportunity to meet and talk to Big artists like AKA (rapper), Sjava, JR (rapper), Yanga chief, Blaq Diamond, and many other artists who inspired him to work on his music and that experience motivated him to work on his debut project titled SSS(EP) which would later drop on the 1st of December 2018. On the EP S.S.S raps about his life, career, and Love.


In 2019 S.S.S released the music video for TRUTH [3] on the 1st of January', as a sign to his fans that he was going to focus on visuals in that year. He then got featured on Wayneehugo’s EP titled Palace in three songs. With him having to tackle doing his second year and making music, S.S.S chose to take the first half of the year and focus on school and he started producing for other members of his camp ('Swagg Ninjaz') and would later have a song produced by him on Cormes’s second EP Caterpilla titled Represent. In the second half of the year, as school work would start to be less he came back to the music scenes and surprised his fans with the behind-the-scenes visuals to his second music video. His second music video, which was for the song Curiosity, was then released on the 4th of July 2019. After the video dropped S.S.S took out two songs and told his fans that he has started working on new music and that will be dropping a project soon. He released 4(Lift as you rise)-EP on the 1st of December for his fans to enjoy whilst waiting for his next project.

2020 - 2022

In 2020, when the Coronavirus Pandemic hit the world and forcing a lockdown, S.S.S released a Song on April 23, 2020, which featured one of his Friends Brando Amour titled Free Your Mind [4] on which he Raps about breaking free from the socials construct of Life. He then took a break from releasing music and told his fans he would be focusing on studying.

After being quiet for almost a year, on March 26, 2021 S.S.S released a new song titled Open Letter Part 1 [5],on which he is addressing the fees must fall issue and the University of the Witwatersrand registration for all protest that took Place on March 10, 2021 in Braamfontein, Johannesburg.

He then followed up his Release with an EP containing two songs that was released on April 23, 2021 on which he is featured along side fellow rappers, Ceaa and Brando Amour. He later went on to release a mini Documentary [6] on the 29 of April 2021, that showcases a glimpse of what happens when he is with his friends and music collaborators Brando Amour and Wayneehugo

In January 2022 S.S.S released a cover of the song Jack by popular rapper Nasty C [7], which was the first track of his Covers-EP.

S.S.S then went on to join AFDA in the pursuit to a better understanding of Film and Television.
