"Resonance" is a song produced by American musician Randall Goffe, known professionally as Home (stylized in all caps) from his sophomore release Odyssey.
The song was released on various platforms, most notably Bandcamp, on 1st July 2014. The track garnered attention upon its release on the Canadian YouTube channel Electronic Gems, where it currently holds over 119 million views.
Production began in 2013 when Goffe was 16 years of age, and was finished the following year. The track was composed in Ableton Live. It features digital synthesizers such as Arturia’s Mini V, a digital inspiration of the Minimoog.
Many listeners have attributed the song's chord progression, vintage synthesizers, reverb and overall aesthetic to evoking feelings of nostalgia and longing. The song is written in the key of F minor. [1] [2]
The song has been credited for introducing the mainstream to the internet micro-genre vaporwave. It has been used and remixed in a wide variety of vaporwave themed clips and mixes, and was used in a mashup with Childish Gambino's Do Ya Like. This mashup was then used in American musician Disco Lines' 2022 track Baby. [3]
Resonance was used in a video posted to the video-sharing platform Vine in October, 2015. [4] The video featured a VHS style edit of characters from the animated sitcom The Simpsons. Gaining up to 22.5 million loops, the video would go on to inspire an internet aesthetic that centered around retro-style edits of the show, referred to as " Simpsonwave". [5] [6]
