Mariam Kasali, also known as Remilekun Mariam Kasali and Remmy Chanter, is a Nigerian musician, who specialises in the Yoruba oratory chant. [1] Remilekun specialises in the genre of the indigenous Yoruba Chant regarded as Ewi. She started a career in the indigenous traditional chant in the year 2010 but started gaining recognition in year 2013. Remilekun is a postmodernist Yoruba poet who recalibrates the traditional art of Ewi to suit the 21st century trend and audience. She commercialises the Yoruba oral poetry through the social media platforms [2]
Mariam Kasali is the chief executive officer of the Asatainment brand, a brand of indigenous music which promotes the native culture. [3] Through this indigenous music brand, Remilekun has gained entrant into the global market by promoting her performances outside of her home nation. [4] Mariam has participated in notable national festivals such as the Niyi Osundare Poetry Festival of 2016 held at the University of Ibadan. [5]
