He was born in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, India in a Marwari industrialist family to Gopal Krishna Singhania and Sulochana Devi. [9] He is a grandson of Sir Padampat Singhania. [10]
He is an alumnus of Darden School of Business, University of Virginia and Carnegie Mellon University, USA. [11] [12]
After the death of his father in 1980, he joined Singhania family's JK Group of companies in 1980. He was the head of PGR Group [13] and was the full time Director of JK Synthetics Ltd, Director of JK Bombay Ltd, JayKay Tech Ltd, Keventor Agro Ltd and JK Jute Mills Ltd. [3] [4] He was the president of National Institute of Quality & Reliability, India. [14] As the head, he took a keen interest in conceptualizing Quality Circle Forum of India. [15]
He is the author of the book Productivity Transformation, an account of his journey immensely rewarding but perilous journey with JK Synthetics. [16]
