Praful Nargund (born c. 1991) [2] is a British businessman and politician serving as a local councillor in the London Borough of Islington for Barnsbury. He is the Labour candidate for the seat of Islington North in the 2024 United Kingdom general election.

Early life

Nargund was born in Bradford. His parents had moved to the UK from Karnataka, India, to work for the National Health Service (NHS). They later moved to Raynes Park and Nargund grew up in south London. [2] He went to King's College School in Wimbledon, before graduating in law at St Hugh’s College, Oxford. [2]

Career

After graduation, Nargund helped develop his mother's IVF clinic into a successful business known as Create Fertility. [2]

He is a director at Create Impact Ventures, an early-stage investment firm. Previously, he held the position of CEO at ABC IVF. [3]

Politics

Nargund is a local councillor in the London Borough of Islington representing the Barnsbury ward. [4]

In 2024, he was shortlisted, [5] and then formally selected by the Labour Party as the party candidate for the Islington North constituency, replacing former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn as the party candidate. [6] [7] [8]

Nargund pledged he would step back from his business activities if elected to parliament. [2]
