The New Albany Founders Day festival is an annual event held in New Albany, Ohio [1], attended by more than 7,000 people each year. The festival has been held at several locations throughout the city but it moved to its current home in Rose Run Park in 2021.
The New Albany Founders Day festival was started by the New Albany Historical Society in 1976 as part of the nation’s bicentennial celebration. The event has continued on in celebration of the founders' development of the area now known as Plain Township and the City of New Albany and is funded by donations from the community. [2]
The New Albany Founders Day festival is preceded by a parade, which was named after seven-term New Albany Councilman Dr. Glyde Marsh in 2019. Marsh died unexpectedly 2 days before his 100th birthday in 2018 and was Grand Marshal of the parade with his late wife, Margaret, in 1994. [3]
Each year, members of the New Albany community are selected to be grand marshals of the Dr. Glyde A. Marsh New Albany Founders Day Parade. [4]
The New Albany Founders Day Community Connection Award was established in 2008 to recognize and showcase the outstanding work and services performed by an area non-profit civic group that serves our community and the surrounding area. [5]
After being canceled in 2020 [6] and delayed in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the festival was hosted in August and coincided with the dedication of the new Rose Run Park. [7]
In 2022, the festival hosted a beer garden which was the first use of the City of New Albany's recently established Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area (DORA). [8]
