Neermarga (also called Neerumarga) is a locality in Mangalore in Dakshina Kannada in the Indian state of Karnataka. The suburb has many educational institutes like Cambridge School.
Neermarga (or Neerumarga) comes from Kannada "Neeru" (water) and "marga" (way).
Neermarga is a hilly region. Many small rivers and streams flow in rural parts of Neermarga.
Neermarga is around 6 kilometers from Mangalore city. It is connected to the city via NH 169 and NH 73. It is connected to Bangalore, Bantwal and Mysore by NH 73.
According to the 2011 Census of India, the population of Neermarga is 5,503. 2,677 of these are males and 2826 are females. 443 children aged 0-6 years old live in Neermarga - 213 boys and 230 girls. Neermarga administrates 1,292 houses. [1]
As of 2011 Census of India, the literacy rate in Neermarga is 91.4%, higher than Dakshina Kannada district's 88.6%, Karnataka's 75.36% and India's 74.04% literacy rate, but lower than Mangalore's 93.72%. Neermarga's male literacy rate is 94.97% and female literacy rate is 88.1%. [2]
Religion in Neermarga.
As per the 2011 Census, there are 3,199 Hindus (58.3% of the total population), 2,018 Christians (36.67%), 281 Muslims (5.11%), 4 Sikhs (0.07%) and 1 Buddhist (0.02%). [3]
Kannada is the most prominent language in Neermarga. Tulu and Konkani are also common.
