Muhammad Muntaga Tall was a Toucouleur ruler who governed Nioro and later the entirety of Kaarta, rebelling against the reigning caliph, his half-brother Ahmadu Tall in 1884. After being surrounded at Nioro with the city besieged by pro-Ahmadu forces, Muntaga would commit suicide in late 1885, after entering the gunpowder room of his palace and setting it alight.
